President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov declared that national athletes are ready to return to the international stage at any time, alongside representatives of other national federations.
— We are ending the biathlon season. I can assure you that the fighting spirit and the atmosphere in the team are excellent. We promote our sport, motivate young people to participate in biathlon and, of course, we are ready to return to the international stage at any time with the rest of the federations, – the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) quoted Maygurov as saying.
Since February last year, many international sports federations have not allowed Russians and Belarusians to compete under their auspices due to the situation in Ukraine. On March 28, 2023, the IOC announced new recommendations for the participation of athletes from these countries: individual admission, neutral status, ban on participation in team sports, ban on participation of athletes associated with law enforcement or expressing their support for the CWO.
ROC leader Stanislav Pozdnyakov called neutral status discrimination based on nationality, Russian Federation Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin considers IOC recommendations illegal.
