Belarusian biathlete Nikita Lobastov said athletes from Russia and Belarus will maintain their level, continuing to compete against each other.
Russian and Belarusian biathletes have been suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) this season. In March, the IOC Executive Committee recommended that international federations, if Russians are allowed to start, do so individually, in a neutral status, without participating in team events, and also exclude the participation of athletes associated with the forces of order.
“A lot has really happened in the last few years. First there was the coronavirus, because of which there were many bans, now the situation is also difficult. But there is motivation, because you never know and there is no exact clarity on what will happen next. Maybe we will continue to perform at international competitions, but apparently not in the near future. Nevertheless, the Commonwealth Cup takes place, where the competition is very high and it was not entirely clear who would win.
I think that by talking together, Russian and Belarusian biathletes will maintain their level. We will continue to compete and when the time comes to come back to the international level, I hope we will be competitive. We have leaders: Eduard Latypov, Anton Smolsky, Daniil Serokhvostov. Already at the end of the season, Eduard became a more obvious favorite, because Anton also got sick, and therefore, there was an unpredictable struggle throughout the season, so we faced each other and, I think, showed a good level”, Championship” quotes Lobastov.
All competitions at the stages of the Cup and the Championship of Russia, the Commonwealth Cup of the last biathlon season were broadcast by the Match holding television channel, and were also broadcast on the websites sportbox.ru and matchtv.ru .
