Sports lawyers Anna Antseliovich and Sergey Alekseev assessed the chances of withdrawal of the Russian Olympic Committee from the European Olympic Committees (EOC).
– Theoretically, any National Olympic Committee is a member of the European Committee voluntarily on request. This issue is resolved at the highest governing body, in Congress. In the same way, any National Olympic Committee can leave the European Committee by decision of the same body which welcomed it, that is to say the Congress. This path is planned in accordance with the charter of the European Olympic Committee, – Alekseev is quoted by RBC Sport.
– Membership in any organization is voluntary, you can both join and leave at any time. It is sufficient for the member to send an official notification of the desire to terminate the membership. Entry requires governing body approval, and exit generally does not require such approval, Anceliovich noted.
Earlier, the ROC chief called the uncertainty with the selection for the 2024 Olympics and the restrictions imposed by the International Olympic Committee the main problems of the national Olympic movement.
At the end of February, the IOC appealed to international sports federations and recommended that they not allow Russian athletes to participate in any competition. After that, various international sports organizations began to expel Russians. The suspension period is still open.
