Head coach of the Russian national biathlon team Yuri Kaminsky tells Metaratings.ru that Edward Latypov wouldn’t lose to the Norwegian Johannes Boe in the sprint by a wide margin.
Have you watched the World Cup? Could Latypov compete with Johannes Boe?
– I looked, but not all races. I think the sprint run from Latypov to Tchaikovsky was very good. It’s hard to say if he couldn’t have lost against Be, but he certainly wouldn’t have lost much against him – 10-20 seconds, not a minute, like they lost at the World Cup.
It’s psychology, Be is now in a comfortable situation. But Latypov also relaxed a little at the end of the season when he realized he had already won the overall Commonwealth Cup. With a very bad shot, for various reasons, Eduard still won. He started to feel more confident and because of that he won, but not always, again.
Our competition is no worse at the intermediate level than the Norwegians. Maybe even somewhere higher. Of course, there is Be, now it is impossible to compete with him, but in some races it was possible to fight – Serokhvostov and Latypov are now in a state of speed in terms of speed.
– Is there a comfortable situation with the absence of Latypov and other Russian athletes?
– He felt the speed advantage and won by going from 40 seconds to one minute. I think in Latypov’s best starts he wouldn’t have won so much – hence the understanding that any miss could turn out to be a loser. The main thing is to clearly define the last frontier, we have understood that. When the situation is so tense, it affects the athletes, you have to deal with it, but it’s not always possible,” said Kaminsky.
All competitions at the stages of the Cup and the Championship of Russia, the Commonwealth Cup of the last biathlon season were broadcast by the Match holding television channel, and were also broadcast on the websites sportbox.ru and matchtv.ru .
