Head coach of the Russian national biathlon team Yuri Kaminsky told Metaratings.ru that he was satisfied with his group’s work following last season’s results.
– The season is over, how can you assess it for your group as a whole? Satisfied with the work done?
— In general, positively satisfied with the work. We have found a growth point in functional training and determined what we can add to the shooting plan. There is more and more understanding on how to do it. Marksmanship training is much more difficult to improve than functional training, it is a more subtle skill. But the guys are young, some trained with me for the first time, they didn’t understand at all how to work in this part.
– What shortcomings can you highlight in your group during the season?
– Shooting, everyone has their own. Someone has a better position than lying down, someone has both positions sinking. Latypov, for example, only started to develop a good standing shot towards the end of the season.
– How do you judge the progress of Eduard Latypov?
– We had planned to reach top form in February, but we deliberately left a little earlier because he wanted to compete for the Commonwealth Cup. From mid-January and at least until mid-February, Eduard maintained a good functional condition, but in the rifle he crumbled a bit.
This may be due to the fact that there have been some changes in the function. Latypov himself believes that in the second half of February it was better than in January. In March he also made good runs, but the sprint to Tchaikovsky turned out to be the most brilliant of the season, where he confidently won with a big margin, good progress and a shot.
– At the Russian Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk, he was no longer at his peak?
– Of course not. In Khanty-Mansiysk, the biathletes of the Russian national team were already there. It is a state of high performance. My conclusion is confirmed by the men’s relay race on the last day in Khanty, where Eduard, in difficult conditions, showed low speed, but good performance from start to finish of the race. Although in these conditions the high speed could not be, it was clear that in terms of performance he was obliged to work at full speed for the three laps, catching up. Eduard in Khanty-Mansiysk looked good in cross-country skiing, his shot takes longer to peak, – said Kaminsky.
