The IBU commented on the situation with Besseberg, whom the prosecutor’s office accused of “flagrant corruption”

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) and the Independent Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU) say they will continue to assist in the investigation of the former IBU President’s corruption case Anders Besseberg .

On Monday, media reported that Norwegian prosecutors had charged Besseberg with “flagrant corruption”. The IBU Board in November 2018 appointed an independent External Review Panel (ERC) to conduct a full investigation into the allegations against Besseberg.

After an exhaustive investigation, the ERC concluded that the ex-official “has something to answer for having broken the rules of the IBU on the basis of their obvious protection of Russian interests, in particular in an anti-doping context, without sufficient grounds”.

“The IBU and the BIU have worked closely with the prosecution on this complex and lengthy matter and will continue to provide full and unconditional support to reach a solution,” the IBU said in a statement posted on its website. official.

On January 28, the IBU commission found Besseberg guilty of concealing doping tests of Russian athletes, citing the ERC report.

Besseberg was president of the IBU from 1993 to 2018.
