Double Olympic champion in biathlon Dmitry Vasiliev told that the ex-president of IBU Anders Besseberg deserves nothing but respect for his contribution to the development of world biathlon.
On Monday April 17, the Norwegian prosecutor’s office accused Besseberg of “flagrant corruption”. The indictment alleges he ‘accepted several expensive watches’, ‘used the services of third-party paid prostitutes’ and ‘agreed on free hunting trips abroad’ . On January 28, 2021, the IBU Commission found Besseberg guilty of concealing doping tests of Russian athletes, citing the report of the Independent External Review Commission (ERC).
– I have known him for many years only in terms of professional qualities. The man has brought significant progress and development to world biathlon. I don’t know anything about corruption. Most likely, some kind of far-fetched story is going on there, someone is settling scores with someone, someone wants to punish Besseberg for I don’t know for what reasons. This person deserves nothing but respect for his contribution to world biathlon, Vasilyev told .
Besseberg was president of the IBU from 1993 to 2018.
