Former IBU president Besseberg charged with corruption

Former President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Anders besseberg is under investigation in a corruption case, reports VG.

In a decision by the Norwegian public prosecutor’s office, Besseberg is accused of “flagrant corruption”. This is consistent with the accusation made against him during the investigation phase.

The indictment alleges he “took a few expensive watches.” He also allegedly “used prostitutes paid by others and also accepted free hunting trips abroad”.

The investigation into Besseberg and 11 other defendants was opened in April 2018 following a police raid on IBU headquarters in Austria. Besseberg himself has always denied receiving money for illegal actions. On January 28, 2021, the IBU commission found Besseberg guilty of concealing doping tests of Russian athletes.

The Norwegian Besseberg is the initiator of the creation and the first (1993-2018) president of the IBU.
