Russian Alexander Lakernik has been elected honorary vice-president of the International Skating Union (ISU). This became known following the results of the last day of the organization’s congress, which was held in Phuket.
Lakernik, 77, was nominated by the ISU board. He received the honorary vice-president’s medal from the current head of the organization, Jan Dykema.
Lakernik has been vice-president of the ISU since 2016. Earlier it became known that the organization’s congress did not accept a proposal to raise the age limit for civil servants from 75 to 80 – thus, Lakernik could not run for office this year. He was replaced as vice-president by Canadian Benoit Lavoie.
