Olympic medalist Kuleshova says she doesn’t want to return to cross-country skiing because of her family

2018 Olympic Bronze Medalist Skier Anastasia Kuleshova told that the decision to return to professional sport after the birth of a child was very difficult for her.

For the 28-year-old skier, the current season was the first full season after the birth of her daughter. Kuleshova won the 30km mass start at the 2022 Russian Championships and also became a bronze medalist in the skiathlon and relay race.

– Can the return to sport be qualified as successful?

– I think that it is possible. Even more than! Of course, I think I haven’t fully regained my form. I’d like to look and feel a little different on the track, but hopefully we’ll get to top form.

Was the return difficult? Have you considered not doing it?

– Certainly. Probably, it was at every summer camp (laughs). I didn’t want to come back because of my family. The main part of an athlete’s life is training camps. We spend a lot of time away from family. This question is very difficult even now, because I do not see how my child is growing. It’s difficult for me as an anxious mother.

– Who helps ?

– Parents. Throughout the winter, we transported my husband’s mother. Thank God she accepted, I thank this person very much! Because it’s not his child, but his granddaughter. First of all, children should be brought up by parents, but, of course, a big thank you to her, because I know how many athletes (parents) disagree,” Kuleshova told .

Kuleshova won bronze at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang as part of the relay, she also won bronze at the 2019 World Championships.

The federal television channel broadcast live all the main competitions of the season in biathlon and cross-country skiing in Russia.
