Double Olympic medalist and four-time world champion in cross-country skiing Hans Christer Holund announced his retirement from the sport.
– In Lahti, 14 years ago, I made my debut at the 15 km skating World Cup. Then the medals won Alexander Legkov , Pietro Piller Cottrep and Christian Hoffman. I finished in 52nd place, 2 minutes behind.
It feels like it was in a past life. I remember every little thing well from the beginning of my career. How nervous I was before departure. How proud I was to be taken to the World Cup and how amazed I was to see the ski stars in the hotel dining room. It was like a roller coaster, but 12 years later I won World Championship gold in the same distance and achieved more than I dreamed of as a kid.
Now I have made the final decision to end my skiing career. It was a tough choice, but with two young children and many side projects, it seems fair to let other athletes hungry for success compete for world championship medals on home soil in 2025.
8 years on the national team, 145 World Cup starts and 8 World and Olympic Championship medals, as well as countless fond memories and impressions of skiing. And although I am now finishing my performances in the elite, cross-country skiing will always be my great passion, ”wrote the Norwegian on the social network.
Holund is 34 years old, in the Norwegian national team, he won the silver of the Olympic Games 2022 in the relay race and the bronze of the Olympic Games 2018 in the skiathlon.
