Coach of the Russian men’s biathlon team Yuri Kaminsky believes his athletes failed to win the Aldan Ski Marathon due to ineffective tactics.
Skier Mikhail Sosnin won the marathon. Biathlete Alexander Kornev took second place, third and fourth places were occupied by biathletes Evgeny Yemerkhonov and Roman Eremin.
– A marathon is a good school for skiers and biathletes, and for a trainer it is an opportunity to see how an athlete maintains his movements for a long time at a competition speed. Biathletes differ from skiers in that the level of automatism begins to drop, which has happened to some of our young athletes. This was partly due to the poor choice of tactics. This time I did not recommend anything to the athletes, because they themselves chose team tactics and work to break away.
The only thing I told them was that they were running with a strong marathon runner who was in the top ten at the 50-kilometer distance at the championships and cups of Russia – Mikhail Sosnin. Plus, it’s his home track, he knows all of its features. The route here is varied and full of pitfalls. A circle of ten kilometers is not too difficult, but when there are five such circles, there are nuances that the athlete must understand and take into account. The guys did not take this into account and therefore lost to Mikhail, although Kornev was in the lead at kilometer 43-44 with a 10-second lead over Sosnin.
Sasha misjudged her abilities and strengths. The guys’ tactic turned out to be ineffective and not a marathon, but hopefully they taught them something. They approached the position of their marathon experience. Roman Eremin ran the marathon for the first time, Kornev for the second time and Evgeny Yemerkhonov for the first or second time. It had its effect, but for them it’s a good school, which will also be useful to them in biathlon. We learn better from our own mistakes than from those of others, Kaminsky told Metaratings.ru.
