Winner of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Championship Maya Yakunina told Sport24 that she considers the Olympic champion Sergei Ustyugov a legendary athlete who will go down in history for centuries.
– You have joint performance experience with Sergei Ustyugov. You even once called your shared photo “legendary”. Is Ustyugov an important person in skiing for you?
– Certainly. Ustyugov is, it seems to me, a legend of skiing, he will go down in history for centuries. He is a very strong athlete.
That’s what I like about Sergey, because he’s very straightforward and kind. Anyone can approach him and he will calmly answer all his questions. That is to say, he is not a star, but a cool and just nice person.
Ustyugov is 31 years old, he is Olympic champion in the 4 × 10 km relay (2022), double world champion in 2017 (in skiathlon and team sprint), winner of the multi-day Tour de Ski of the 2016/17 Season.
The federal television channel broadcast live all major cross-country competitions in Russia, including the Russian Championship, Champion Heights and National Cup stages.
