President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov commented on the draft competition calendar for the 2023/24 season and also explained that the unification of the Russian Cup and the Commonwealth Cup is impossible due to the fact that not all regions can participate in all nine competitions .
– We have so far offered the calendar as a whole, and not the names of certain competitions, so the number of stages of the Russian Cup and the Commonwealth Cup may change. Our main start will be the Spartakiad of the Strongest in February. At least two weeks should be given to all athletes to prepare for it. In December there will be a break week, as last year it was overcrowded, the competition lasted five weeks. Otherwise, we will have competitions almost every week.
We cannot unite the Russian Cup and the Commonwealth Cup, because not all regions can participate in all nine competitions, but they can participate in five or six stages of the Russian Cup. In addition, the status of the competition is divided into international and domestic. Our national competitions will also be open to Belarusian competitions. The Russian Cup is a separate prize that will be raffled among Russian athletes,” Maygurov told Metaratings.ru.
According to the project, the season begins with the Commonwealth Cup on September 5 and ends in April 2024.
