Akhatova called one of the main mistakes of biathletes when shooting from a standing position

russian biathlete Albina Akhatova talked about the most common shooting problems.

– Very often, for example, in standing shooting, an athlete pulls on a hard pull. There is no hold phase when processing the trigger. This is very clearly visible from the trajectory of the barrel. As the bullet exits the bore, the powder gases continue to act on it and give it extra velocity. In ballistics, this is called the consecutive gas period. The bullet reaches its maximum speed at the end of this period at a distance of several tens of centimeters from the muzzle of the barrel.

That is, at a distance of about 30 centimeters, the bullet is still connected to the rifle by a powder gas tail. If the athlete, having dealt with the descent, continues to drive the barrel by inertia, or prematurely relieves muscle tension, for example, in the shoulder, or removes his hand from the pistol grip early in order to reload the weapon faster, that is, at the moment when the bullet is still connected to the rifle by the tail powder gases, this will change the angle of departure and the flight path, which, as a rule, leads to a failure,” Akhatova told RT.

Akhatova also recalled that she started remaking rifle stocks before the World Championships in 2005.

– The first experience happened in 2005 in Italy, where we organized the final training camp before the World Championships in Hochfilzen. My rifle had a very wide butt, like a shovel. And I decided to try to cut the core in the ass. Make a butt, like the Norwegians, so that there are two narrow strips above and below. I asked our repairman Mikhail Koloskov for a Swiss army knife, there was a nail file in it, and with this file I started to redo.

Were you afraid of disfiguring the weapon? No. For some reason, I was absolutely sure everything would be fine. Seen, of course, for a long time. All hands were in calluses, – said the biathlete.

Akhatova is the 2006 Olympic relay champion and four-time world champion.
