Vasiliev: “Rostovtsev has decided to restore order and discipline in the national team. Babikov’s suspension may be due to absence from training camp”

Double Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev told that the withdrawal of the biathlete Anton Babikov of the centralized training of the national team may be due to the fact that the vice-president of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) for sport, Pavel Rostovtsev, decided to increase discipline in the team.

Earlier, commentator Dmitry Guberniev said that Babikov was not taken to centralized training as part of the Russian national team.

– As far as I know, Rostovtsev decided to restore order and discipline, which all athletes must clearly adhere to. Perhaps this is due to Babikov missing the national team’s first training camp. On the one hand, Rostovtsev can be understood, but, on the other hand, it should be started with young athletes, and not with such experienced athletes as Anton, who know what to do. In May, retractable training camps are held, to which adult athletes sometimes close their eyes and rest more. I don’t think that because of this it was worth making such decisions about Babikov, maybe also Loginov.

Tidying up is a good thing, but you have to do it with competent methods. If Babikov really was taken out of centralized training because he missed training camp, then it’s wrong, Vasilyev told .

Babikov, 31, is a biathlon world champion, four-time European champion and honored master of sport.
