Bronze medalist at the Olympics Maxim Tsvetkov told that he fell ill during a training camp in Raubichi (Belarus). The biathlete also explained what he would be looking for as motivation for the upcoming season.
– In April, I had two colds. And it looks like there was covid once. At the training camp in Sochi, I was careful because it was cold. I did workouts in the gym when it was raining, I didn’t go out. We have now arrived in Raubichi and it seems to be hot. No signs of trouble. Four days passed and a runny nose and cough appeared. I hope that in two or three days I will be in good health.
– In one of the interviews you said that you have not yet recovered emotionally after the Olympics. Has he succeeded now?
“Now we have to be realistic. In the current situation, it is very difficult to do so. Because there is no goal as such. When you are in the national team and the Olympics are over, then you prepare yourself at least for the World Cup. In the current situation, you do not understand what you are preparing for. Of course, we understand that this season we will be playing in Russia and we have to try not to lose the level we had last season. But it’s a bit tricky. We understand that there will be less competition and that at some point our results will drop. There is competition in the team. And it’s good that we have several equal men’s teams that create competition between them. Several groups, different training methods, it’s a bit stimulating. But in general, in Russia, such competition is not expected only in international competitions. There is a problem in this, it will and will not go anywhere.
– You said that since you were not allowed to participate in the Pyeongchang Olympics, the motivation and the results started to decline. Judging by your words, there is a feeling that this could happen now after the Beijing Olympics.
– Now I am a bit different athlete, because these four years have changed me a lot. I no longer look for motivation in medals, because I realized that it is very difficult. I haven’t been on the national team for three years. If he hadn’t found another motivation, he would most likely have ended his career. Because when you race in the Russian Cups, it’s hard to motivate yourself to win a medal, because before that you were world champion, European champion, and competed in international competitions. That motivation is lost, because it’s a whole other level. I realized for myself that you just have to find the motivation in training in the very process that you are doing. You have to go to the gym and try to improve yourself. I started looking for motivation in this area – it became easier to train. You understand why you are going to training. In other words, you don’t just have a plan that someone writes to you and you have to carry it out. And you start to think: why and why? It’s much easier for me to work that way.
