“I understood that I would not get into the national team when I defended coach Shukalovich” – biathlete Babikov

World champion Anton Babikov said he was not surprised at his failure to break into the national team to prepare for the new season.

Previously, the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) published the composition of the coaching groups to prepare for the 2023/24 season. Babikov was not included in Sergei Bashkirov’s squad, in which he trained last season. The biathlete will train independently in his region – Ufa. It was reported that Babikov appealed to RBU President Viktor Maigurov for analyst Dmitry Shukalovich to be a coach in Bashkirov’s group.

– When did you learn that the national team was missing?

– This question does not bother me so much, because I understood it when I defended Dmitry Shukalovich. The issue of criteria has been discussed by athletes and coaches all winter. We asked what the main departure would be. We were told that Tchaikovsky and Izhevsk. We asked if there was a confirmation on paper. There was no clear answer. Then some crashed, some didn’t run well at the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean people don’t deserve a paycheck. I don’t mind that I’m out of tune with the TsSP, because I refused to train for the national team,” Babikov told ‘s Loud show.

Previously, commentator Dmitry Guberniev said that Larisa Kuklina, Evgeny Yemerkhonov and Ilnaz Mukhamedzyanov were deprived of their salaries in the Russian national team. All three are part of Yuri Kaminsky’s group, which is currently undergoing centralized training in Sochi.
