The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Appeal Tribunal has overturned the Russian Bobsleigh Federation’s temporary suspension, Russian Bobsleigh Federation Secretary General Sergey Parkhomenko told .
In March, the IBSF executive committee temporarily suspended the membership of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation in connection with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee. In the second half of March, the Russian Bobsleigh Federation appealed this decision to the IBSF Appeal Tribunal.
“Today we received a decision from the IBSF Appeal Tribunal that the temporary suspension of our federation is revoked and no longer has the force of law,” Parkhomenko told . – For now, we can continue to develop our sport. We are also preparing the congress which will be held in a month. We now have the power to participate in Congress.
At the moment, we are still awaiting the publication of the International Federation regarding its future actions, how it will comment on this decision.
– Does this decision mean that Russian athletes can participate in international competitions?
– Initially, the IBSF executive committee withdrew our federation from its membership. And as a result, this suspension resulted in our athletes not being admitted, i.e. we could not accredit and license our athletes for international departures. Therefore, from the decision of the IBSF Appeal Tribunal, it follows that at present our athletes can participate in international competitions. If there were departures now, we could participate. But I repeat that we are still awaiting the reaction of the International Federation.
