Blaschko: While abroad, athletes continue to follow the war, it is exhausting and affects the result

The biathlete has been training at the base in Syanki since May

Ukrainian biathlete Daria Blashko talked about preparing for the new season. The athlete, together with the team, trains at the first training camp of the summer off-season in Syanki.

“From May 18, we started preparing for the season. Now we are training in the town of Syanki in the western part of Ukraine. Here is a good base, which, fortunately, was not damaged by the war.

“Between training camps and competitions, I lived in Slovenian Pokljuka. But I was in Ukraine at the national championships. Last summer, when the first training camp was held in Ukraine, I asked not to go. I wasn’t ready after the experience. Too little time has passed since leaving. I am grateful that they met me halfway and allowed me to train in Pokljuka. In addition, the collection was retractable. Before that, I could not train for about two months. It was necessary to get in shape step by step.”

“All things with me in the car. So I move around Europe or from Europe to Ukraine as needed. Already used to it. Of course, I hope this is a temporary measure. All in our hands. If a person is not satisfied with something, he takes it and changes it.”

“The war continues in Ukraine. And stress emasculates if you are under the threat of shelling. While abroad, athletes also follow the news, worry about relatives and friends who are in hot spots. And the body’s resources are not unlimited. This affected the results of the entire team last season.”

Recall that after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, Blaschko spent a month in a basement in Chernihiv, hiding from Russian shelling. According to coach Juraj Sanitra, psychological stress affected the athlete’s physical form last season.

Ukraine for the first time in history finished the season without awards at the World Cup. At the same time, the men’s and women’s teams entered the top 10 of the Nations Cup standings, which allowed Ukraine to maintain a quota of five athletes for individual races for the next season.
