Olympic silver medalist in pair skating Alexandre Enbert hopes the International Skating Union (ISU) will allow Russians to compete internationally before the start of major international tournaments in 2024.
On Sunday, the ISU press service reported that the organization confirmed the withdrawal of Russians from participating in international competitions under its auspices. The ISU suspended athletes from Russia and Belarus last year due to the situation in Ukraine.
– Suspension is always bad, athletes must participate, perform, compete in the best tournaments in the world. Russian skaters have often won world championships and European championships, so it will be a loss for us and for them. Bad news, nothing more to add. I hope that the matter will still be resolved at the level of federations and ministries and, perhaps, the decision will be reviewed and our athletes will be admitted before the start of the World Championship and the European Championship. In general, I really like sports and I want not only Russian skaters to come back, but also all our guys in all sports,” Enbert told .
The European Figure Skating Championships will take place from January 22 to 28, 2024, the World Championships from March 18 to 24.
