Choreographer Ilya Averbukh told he was very upset with the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to uphold the Russians’ withdrawal from competitions.
On Sunday, the ISU press service reported that the organization confirmed the withdrawal of Russians from participating in international competitions under its auspices. The ISU suspended athletes from Russia and Belarus last year due to the situation in Ukraine.
– I am very upset with this decision, it is absolutely opportunistic and wrong, and will definitely affect the development of world figure skating. There can be no growth without competition, and Russian skaters are the headliners of world skating,” Averbukh told .
On March 28, 2023, the IOC Executive Board recommended that international sports federations allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions as neutral athletes and subject to additional conditions.
