President of the Russian Luge Federation (FSSR) Natalia Garth told that she does not believe that Russian athletes will be granted acceptable conditions to participate in international competitions following the results of the Congress of the International Luge Federation (FIL).
The FIL congress takes place from June 17 to 18 in Bucharest. One of the issues on the agenda is the abolition of Russian lugers.
– There is no information from the congress at the moment, everything will be in the official press release on their website. But there are no positive expectations, as Russian athletes are unlikely to be offered terms we can accept, Garth told .
In March 2022, the FIL executive committee temporarily banned Russians from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Afterwards, the president of the Russian Luge Federation (FSSR), Natalia Gart, told that the FIL arbitration tribunal had granted the appeal to withdraw the Russian lugers from international competitions, but that the FIL had the intention to exclude the FSSR from its organization. In September 2022, the FIL extended the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in the competition.
