The 2027 Luge World Championships will take place in Innsbruck

Austria Innsbruck will host the Luge World Championships in 2027, according to the website of the International Luge Federation (FIL).

Innsbruck’s candidacy won a vote at the FIL congress, the Austrian city obtaining 21 votes, ahead of the American Lake Placid (11 votes).

The world championship will be held in Austria for the eighth time, on the Olympic track in Igls, competitions were held every 10 years from 1977 to 2017.

“Holding the World Cup in our country is of great importance and opens up great opportunities to popularize the sport. The Olympic track in Igls needs a complete reconstruction. We find our competitors’ concept appealing and hope Lake Placid will bid to host the 2028 World Cup. I promise to support our friends in New York State,” said Markus Prok, Head of the Austrian Federation sled.

Earlier, the FIL extended the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in competitions under the organization’s auspices.
