The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has denied the Russian biathlete Mikhail Pervushin reduce the standard period for returning to competition after resuming a career, according to the official website of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU).
In April, Pervushin informed the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) about the end of his sports career, but in May he decided to resume it. According to anti-doping rules, six months must elapse between the time a request to re-start is made and an athlete’s first legal start.
– The athlete asked RUSADA to reduce this period until September 1, so that he has the opportunity to participate in the starting phase of the Commonwealth Cup in Sochi. Considering that Pervushin had not committed any anti-doping violations in the past and the short period during which the athlete was not seen by anti-doping authorities, RUSADA considered it possible to meet the athlete halfway by reducing the period. The International Biathlon Union (IBU) did not object, but WADA has the final say in this story.
Thus, Pervushin will be able to participate in the competition no earlier than November 14, 2023.
Pervushin is a three-time youth world champion.
