The coach of the Russian skiers explained his thoughts on the idea of equal distances for men and women

Oleg Perevozchikov, head coach of the Russian cross-country ski team, admitted on that he was not very positive about the idea of equal distances for men and women.

Since last season, the men’s and women’s distances have been equalized in the World Cup (10, 20 and 50 km). On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) approved equal distances for women and men at the 2026 Olympics.

“To be honest, I’m not very positive about it. Still, in connection with the change of competition program, it is necessary to modify the training program. Yet a woman is a woman, and a man is a man. And with a load during competitive activity, that difference should probably be taken into account. People are adults, they can react in different ways. But I fully understand that the season will come, and that we will have to compete. Therefore, less talk – more action,” Perevozchikov told .

At the end of April, the composition of the groups of the Russian national cross-country team for the 2023/24 season was determined. The coaching group of Oleg Perevozchikov and Danil Akimov included Ivan Gorbunov, Dmitry Zhul, Sergey Zabaluev, Alexander Ivshin, Ilya Semikov, Anton Timashov, Lidia Gorbunova, Olga Zholudeva, Evgenia Krupitskaya, Alesya Rushentseva, Ekaterina Smirnova.
