The 10,000th RIOU graduate received a vocational retraining diploma

On June 23, at the International Olympic University of Russia, a formal graduation ceremony was held for RIOU students who completed their studies during the 2022/2023 academic year as part of the “Master of Sports Administration” and “Master of Sports Management” at the International Olympic University of Russia. The event took place on International Olympic Day and on the XXXIV All-Russian Olympic Day 2023.

The 10,000th graduate of RIOU received a diploma – a Chinese woman, Xu Weiwei, who came to study in Russia in 2018. The dresses of the graduates were worn by the champions and winners of the Olympic Games Lilia Akhaimova (gymnastic), Musa Yevloev (Greco-Roman wrestling), Ilya Zakharov (diving), Alexander Sokolov (volleyball), Uliana Nigmatullina (biathlon), winners of the world and European championships Boris Nikonorov (beach football), Natalya Suvorova (cycling), Daniil Pakhomov (swimming), etc.

RIOU Rector, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education, Prof. Lev Belousov said: “Today the Russian International Olympic University reached an important milestone: the 10,000th graduate received a document on the additional vocational training. It is symbolic that the “jubilee” diploma was awarded to a Chinese woman, Xu Weiwei, which underlines the international status of the University. Since the RIOU has been in existence for a relatively short time, representatives from 76 countries around the world have been trained there. A feature of this year was the record number of already established athletes sitting at their desks. 22 Honored Masters of Sports and 23 Masters of Sports of international class have been trained, including 27 participants in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, 4 Olympic champions and the winner of the Paralympic Games.

The graduation ceremony was also attended by the Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee Rodion Plitukhin, former President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Rene Fasel Minister of Sports of the Krasnodar Territory Serafim Timchenko, Deputy Mayor of Sochi Sergey Umantsev, Executive Director of the NHL Foundation Alexei Patrakov, Head of the Fisht Sports Club Veniamin Bogomolov, Head Coach of the Russian Paralympic Cross-Country Skiing and Biathlon Team Irina Gromova and other honored guests.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation sent his greetings to the graduates and guests of the ceremony Dmitri Chernychenko Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin three-time Olympic champion, Senator of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Alexander Karelin, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Chernyshenko, noted in his speech that “graduates popularize sport and develop the Olympic movement around the world, using the skills and abilities they have acquired during of their university studies”. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation added: “I am sure that the knowledge acquired at the university will help graduates of the Russian International Olympic University to participate in the further development of national sports and the Olympic movement.”

The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Oleg Matytsin, in his address to the graduates, emphasized: “The programs “Master of Sports Administration” and “Master of Sports Management” meet all the requirements of the present and offer a high level knowledge in narrowly targeted areas. The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation wished the graduates “to implement all their plans, to become professionals in their field and to continue to popularize sports and inculcate its values”.

Senator of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, three-time Olympic champion Alexander Karelin thanked the rector of RIOU, teachers and staff of the University “for creating wonderful conditions for the training and development of cadres working in the field of physical culture and sport.” The senator expressed confidence that “the knowledge and experience gained by students and listeners will allow everyone to unleash their creative potential, help make decisive decisions for the effective development of the sports industry” .

President of the Russian Olympic Committee, four-time Olympic champion Stanislav Pozdnyakov noted: “We often talk about the Olympic legacy of the Winter Games in Sochi. The RIOU is one of its most important components, thanks to the truly multifaceted activities carried out by the University, despite sometimes very difficult external factors. The work is carried out not only in the field of sport, but also in the wider humanitarian sphere. The University is spending its second decade constantly increasing the number of projects, improving the quality and raising the standard of the programs. Which, in turn, is the key to training a new generation of profile managers with versatile knowledge.

Currently, the Russian Olympians Support Fund and RIOU Scholarship Competition is ongoing.
