The International Luge Federation (FIL) announced on the official website the adoption of amendments to the organization’s charter to regulate emergency situations, such as those currently occurring between Russia and Ukraine.
A two-thirds majority passed the so-called “emergency paragraph”, which governs cases of “force majeure” such as pandemics or other disasters.
“The agreed amendment to the Articles of Association is a broadly coordinated proposal that should strengthen FIL’s ability to act appropriately in critical situations so that it can continue its operations optimally,” said FIL Chief Executive Christoph Schweiger.
Sports law specialist Christian Krahe stressed that the FIL does not want to specifically regulate the current situation between Russia and Ukraine, but in general possible emergencies.
In April, the FIL announced plans to amend its charter to impose sanctions on the Russian Luge Federation, in defiance of a court ruling that overturned sanctions against Russian luge riders.
