“Sochi’s ski jumps are too low for snowmaking, and artificial snow is too expensive” – Kolobkov

Former Sports Minister of Russia Pavel Kolobkov spoke in an interview with about the problems of the post-Olympic use of the facilities of the 2014 Games in Sochi.

— Is the Legacy program working successfully with regard to the Sochi Olympic venues?

– The program was developed by the Ministry of Sports, but a lot depends on the federations in its implementation. Nobody, except them, will attract competitions and training camps to sports facilities. At the same time, most of the structures in Sochi are actively used, and not idle, the problem is only with ski jumps. They are too low for normal snowfall and artificial snow is extremely expensive. Ideally, it is necessary to create a large Olympic reserve school in Sochi and make maximum use of heritage sites for centralized training, Kolobkov told .

The Sochi Winter Olympics took place from February 7 to 23, 2014. 2,800 athletes from 88 countries took part, 98 sets of medals were contested in 7 sports (15 disciplines).
