Triple Olympic medalist in biathlon Edward Latypov told that he regretted spending little time with his family due to frequent trips to training camps and competitions.
Latypov is 29 years old. In June, it was reported that the biathlete and his wife Daria were expecting their second child. At the Beijing Games, the Russian won the bronze medal in the mixed and men’s relay races, as well as in the pursuit.
Are you very worried about not seeing your child grow up?
– Certainly. Many moments of growing up my daughter, unfortunately, I did not see. When you’re athletic, it’s inevitable. It’s a minus of our profession, so to speak. There is little time, very little… You can’t catch up on the phone, it’s not good.
Are the sacrifices justified? You realize yourself as an athlete.
– Hard to say. If you are in World Cups and Championships, showing yourself at the Olympics, then yes – it makes sense and you can be a little patient. But now when we don’t have these competitions, you as an athlete don’t realize yourself until the end, no matter what competitions we hold here in Russia,” Latypov told .
Last season, Russians and Belarusians participated in national competitions due to non-admission to competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
