President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov talked about the possible return of the national team and national athletes to international tournaments.
The new season begins in Sochi, where the first stage of the Alfa-Bank Summer Biathlon Cup will take place from September 5 to 12. Russians and Belarusians will take part in the competition.
– Regular communication with the IBU concerns reports on our anti-doping activities. We are getting feedback that all is well. As for our return, during the last IBU executive committee, it was announced that they did not see the possibility of the Russians returning. It seems to me that our sport will be one of the last to return to international competitions, because the history of suspensions has been going on for many years. The executive director of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), Alexander Pak, in turn added that the national team must be as ready as possible for admission to international competitions.
– We are asked the question, why bring together the entire national team, if there are no international competitions? We have to be ready if they let us in. That’s why we keep the national team full,” Pak said.
