– I told the coach that I was getting married at the end of last season. Katya made an offer before the Youth Spartakiad in Chelyabinsk. If you look at the prize money that the strongest gave us for the Spartakiad, of course, they are an order of magnitude lower than in international competitions. At the Russian Championship, the prize money is even smaller.
Do you regret having chosen this sport? You are at the age when the doors to all spheres are open.
“I will never regret it in my life. Sport has already given a lot in terms of becoming a person, in terms of self-realization. I won’t talk about the material component, for the most part it doesn’t make sense.

Now, a few years later, I can ride a lot of bikes and feel great, but back then it was hard to go. And I also didn’t fly to training camp until August, for health reasons, and they started training in May and were, so to speak, more cheerful than me.
– Your father is a skateboarder.
– Master of Sports of the USSR.
– Was there a stage of denial – “I won’t be a skateboarder like dad”? Or on the contrary, did you want to run on rollerblades, like him?
– Neither. Dad really wanted me to be a skateboarder. At some point, everything did not work out for him, he was called up to the national team, and his father did not allow him to continue on this path. When I was 7-8 years old, my father filmed me and we dismantled at home how I run. Went with a group of friends on the World Cup stages. There was no idea to do anything else or quit, it just continued, it turned out that I liked it.
– A question that cannot be ignored. Would you like to try your hand at short track skating?
– Before entering into a relationship with Katya, I offended her very much – she admitted – I said that I would easily switch to short track in a year. There was such a discussion on this topic with the participation of Viktor Alexandrovich and Ruslan Zakharov!
In fact, I like the short track. In Kolomna, two weeks after the end of the season, I did 8 laps in 10.3 seconds. It’s not easy, especially after the break. It’s an interesting sport. But the coach said that until there is Olympic gold, no short track! SO…
– Does growth on a short track interfere?
– On short track, there are high-level athletes who perform quite well. It also works the other way around – few people believed in Ruslan Zakharov when he came to skate with such height.
– Ready to run as much as him?
No, it’s hard physically and mentally. Given the current situation, there is no desire to think five years ahead.
– Did you call Kazakhstan?
– Directly – no. No one has officially contacted. Yes, I would not go. He also did not contact anyone.
– Do not miss the departures in Kolomna? Before, there were a lot of them, now the two championships go through your city again?
– As an athlete, I do not understand why competitions are held on obviously worse ice. Anyway, we don’t have international competitions, and here we still don’t have the opportunity to race on fast ice in competitive conditions. Last year – I can understand, everything was experimental. I also understand the need to develop sport in the regions, but we can send even younger children there. In the absence of an international calendar, adult athletes have no other motivation than good seconds, and I would really like to show a decent result.
