Suprun wins silver in the junior super sprint at the 2023 Summer Biathlon World Championships

Three Ukrainians finished in the top 5 at once

Ukrainian Sergey Suprun won silver in men’s super sprint among juniors Summer Biathlon World Cup 2023, which takes place in the Slovak Brezno-Osrbli.

Sergei qualified for the final only from 17th place. However, he played the competition confidently and, despite three misses, managed to get ahead of the Croatian Matija Legovic, who won the bronze, by a second. Pole Jan Gunka became the winner of the super sprint among juniors with a score of 21:19.2. Suprun lagged behind him by almost 10 seconds.

Two more Ukrainians, Stepan Kinash and Vitaliy Mandzin, took places in the top five. They passed the first firing line without errors and could qualify for medals. In the future, both made four misses.

It should be noted that all Ukrainian juniors, declared at the World Championships as part of the national team, were selected for the finals of the super sprint. However, Bogdan Borkovsky, Yegor Makarenko and Mikhail Khmil failed to get into the final top 20.

Recall that earlier on August 24, Ukrainians Oleksandra Merkushina and Elena Gorodnaya climbed the podium together in the women’s junior super sprint.

The 2023 Summer Biathlon World Cup takes place in Slovakia from 24 to 27 August. Tomorrow, August 25, adult men’s and women’s super sprints are scheduled.
