Olympic diving champion Elena Vaitsekhovskaya spoke about the situation with the election of the president of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), and also suggested why the coach of the Russian national team Maxim Maximov made a choice in favor of the vice-president of the RRF Alexei Nuzhdov .
On Thursday, June 23, a conference on RBU reports and elections was held in Moscow. Incumbent President Viktor Maygurov and Nuzhdov claimed the position of head of the organization. According to the results of the vote, none of the candidates won 2/3 of the votes, Maigurov was supported by 35 delegates, Nuzhdov – by 18. Maksimov, representing the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, voted for the vice- president of the organization.
Why did Maksimov do this? Is it only because it is so uncontracted and therefore unreliable? Yes, nothing like that. The story is as simple as a nail: the head coach of the men’s team, Yuri Kaminsky, found himself practically without work this season: all the top athletes, except for Latypov, did not didn’t work well with this group of coaches – they left for the other groups.
And here, very appropriately, the opponent of the outgoing president of the RBU voiced the point of the election program: in the event of a victory in the elections, Kaminsky will be appointed head coach of the national team. In this case, can other opportunities open to Maksimov himself than to work with reservists, not even of the second, but of the third composition? Absolutely… Well, how not to vote for this perspective? Another question is that even if such an appointment takes place, it is unlikely to change the situation in the team: coaching authority has not been acquired by force for a long time, quotes RT Vaitsekhovskaya.
New elections will take place at the end of August. The procedure will take place under the new charter, according to which the winner of the election will have to obtain the majority of the votes.
