The choreographer of the Moskvina club explained why ballet dancers are forbidden to skate

Choreographer Valeria Chistyakova said in an interview with that she does not go on the ice during training with figure skaters, because she is an active ballet dancer and there is a risk of injury or improper muscle development. .

Chistyakova has been working at Tamara Moskvina’s club since 2021. She coaches a couple Yasmina Kadyrova / Valery Kolessov , as well as the club’s junior single skaters. Chistyakova also worked with Alexandra Boikova and Dmitry Kozlovsky, who joined Eteri Tutberidze’s group in May.

What is your role in the club team?

— We always work in tandem with Nikolai Moroshkin. When he puts the general concept of the program and the glide, I add elements of creativity and I recall everything so that the program looks danceable. So it’s about art, not just sport. I am responsible for the choreographic component – hands, lines, dance parts, sometimes lifts. I’m only creative in the hall, I don’t skate myself (it’s forbidden for current ballet dancers). Sometimes I come with something on the floor, and Nikolai immediately says, “It won’t work on ice.” And sometimes we try to transfer my ideas from the public to the ice, and it turns out to be quite atypical, interesting. We form a good tandem, we get along and want to do everything to make the programs work in the best possible way.

– And why are ballet dancers forbidden to skate?

– There is an opinion that skating and rollerblading – and even long-distance running – develop muscles poorly. Exactly in width, which is not accepted in ballet. Moreover, if an amateur skates, he will surely fall to his knees or tailbone. This is the risk of injury. And the knee and hip joints in ballet are very important, any artist is afraid of injuring them. The ban on figure skating for ballet dancers has therefore been in effect for a long time,” Chistyakova told .
