The leader of the Ukrainian biathlon team spoke about rehabilitation after a broken arm
Ukrainian biathlete Dmitry Pidruchny told how his rehabilitation is going after a broken arm in training.
“They did an MRI – it showed that, in principle, the doctors expected: everything is going well, growing together, the joint is recovering, the ligaments are also. But it is necessary now that the arm be immobilized for several weeks. After that, we will go through the examination again, let’s see what condition she will be in – and then it will already be possible to start some kind of light training, without much stress on the arm. And start kneading it more intensively so that it bends and unbends normally. An operation is not required.”
“Now the hand is fixed, immobilized. I train every few days on an exercise bike, my arm is also fixed with me. And there’s nothing else I can do.”
“I can gradually give a dosed load on my left hand not earlier than the end of September. I think that in October I will be able to restore it to a certain level. So that I can start training completely normally from November, without restrictions.
“Especially, I don’t tune in to the first stage of the World Cup. Because I understand: if I miss, perhaps, the whole of October, then a month later it is very difficult to prepare for the first stage of the World Cup, to show good results there. Of course, you can do it, but then the rest of the season may suffer.”
“If I set goals for holding a normal, full-fledged season and preparing for the European and World Championships, then I think that it is not necessary to force the form for the first stage of the World Cup. Perhaps we should start with the second or third stages of the World Cup or the IBU Cup. Maybe even after New Years.”
One of the leaders of the Ukrainian national team broke his arm after falling off a bicycle in training in August. Dmitry missed the 2023 Summer World Cup due to an injury.
The 2023/24 Biathlon World Cup starts in Östersund, Sweden on November 25. The 2024 World Championship will be held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, from 7 to 18 February.
