Body of 2006 Olympics participant found in Stockholm two months after tragedy

Swedish snowboarder Mikael Lundmark died while performing a stunt in central Stockholm. express .

The incident happened on June 16, the athlete decided to perform a forward somersault from the arched bridge of Vesterbron at night in the city center. Before the jump, Lundmark, 36, turned on his phone’s video camera to capture the trick.

Eyewitnesses to the jump reported that the rider’s fall into the water “felt like an explosion”. The athlete’s friends called for help when he did not surface. The search operation returned no results.

On August 27, a passerby near the seawall on the island of Riddarholmen in Stockholm discovered Lundmark’s body, identified by tattoos.

In 2006, the snowboarder competed in the halfpipe at the Turin Olympics, where he finished 27th.
