International federations are interested in the performance of Russian athletes, but when developing admission criteria, they are obliged to focus on the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said the assistant to the president of the Russian Federation. Igor Levitin.
— Russian-Chinese relations do not only concern sport. This is commercial turnover, logistics. I thank our Chinese friends for supporting Russia. There are also sanctions in sport. Today there is no activity of Russians in Europe, our Chinese friends treat this with understanding. We find solutions together. The Chinese women’s team was in Russia, we are passing on our experience.
We all understand that all the foundations of the Olympic Charter adopted by Coubertin have been violated. At the moment, no decisions have been made regarding the performances of Russian and Belarusian athletes. Although the international federations do everything for us to perform well, there is a constant reference to the IOC,” Levitin said during the “Faraway Sports” session at the Eastern Economic Forum.
At the end of March, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in neutral status. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO. The decision on the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as the IOC noted, will be made “at the appropriate time”.
