Snowboarder Wild: “If I compete for Russia, I can only do it on my own terms”

Double Olympic snowboard champion Vic Sauvage told he would need government support if he returned to his professional career.

Wild is 37 years old and received Russian citizenship in 2012. The snowboarder won two gold medals at the 2014 Olympics. Eight years later, the athlete won bronze at the Beijing Olympics, after which he announced his retirement.

— After the Olympic Games in China, everything did not go as planned. I may have to continue to compete.

But if I compete for Russia, I can only do so on my own terms. I feel like since 2016 I haven’t been able to focus on snowboarding and winning because of unnecessary distractions. If I want to succeed again, I will need the full support of Russia,” Wild told .
