Biathlete Alexander Povarnitsyn told that he would miss the sprint at the Russian Championships in Tyumen due to poor health, the athlete could take part in the relay and individual race.
The Alfa-Bank Russian Summer Biathlon Championship begins on Saturday in Tyumen.
— When I moved from Sochi to Tyumen, I had a very busy schedule, I slept little, maybe I missed something with nutrition somewhere, I had to eat on time. After such stress, after training in the mountains, after fairly intense competitions, the body malfunctioned. It was clear that at the competition I was already in great shape and had performed well. I think a few days wasn’t enough time to recover, and it caused the body to say, “Dude, please rest already.” There is no need to rush and rush somewhere” (smile). However, I really wanted to participate in the sprint. Even today, I tried to get up, to mobilize, to go to training. But still, I am already such an age that it is time to listen to my body and, at the right times, let it recover, and not push myself further.
— What is the minimum goal you set for the Russian Championship?
“The minimum goal is to win a medal here.” At most, of course, I wanted to win the individual race, but questions arise about this, because the distance of 20 km is very difficult and it is unknown how the body will behave afterwards. In other words, today I find myself at a crossroads: either I will recover, or the illness will get a little worse, and I will only be able to run the relay race by sacrificing my condition. But I think I’m the right person in the team, we should try to take over if there are no problems.
— At the Commonwealth Cup stage in Sochi, Smolsky had a superb performance and the whole Belarusian team looked good. How much did they surprise you?
“I was not surprised, because I saw through social networks, through the media, how they were preparing. It was clear that the guys would be charged. The only thing that was interesting was how they would react to the altitude: they were in Tsaghkadzor, where the altitude was higher, in Sochi, where the altitude was lower. But apparently this connection works and there is no failure. “Everyone feels good,” Povarnitsyn told .
All races of the Russian Championship will be broadcast live on the channel and broadcasts will also be available on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
