Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov has spoken about his alcohol problems during his professional career.
Since January this year, the skater has suffered several amputations after being hospitalized. In early July, the 46-year-old skater announced that he had been released from the hospital. Since then, videos of the adaptation process have appeared on her social media.
– I had an affair. After skating, playing, drinking and not hitting my number. I slipped smoothly and fell asleep in the hallway. It was morning, people were already getting up for breakfast, which caused a bit of panic among the Canadians. They got scared and called an ambulance. They thought something bad had happened to the person. And it was carpeted and everything was soft… The ambulance and the fire department arrived, they almost put me on an IV. But at that moment Plushenko came running, woke me up and took me to my room. Then I got what I deserved.
I have always had reprimands throughout my career, I have been disqualified several times. I was truly a bully. For that, a lot of coaches didn’t like me, and the president of the federation didn’t like me. But his wife respected me as an athlete. You must always have a line and maintain balance. For me, walking is walking, it’s my motto in life. You work – therefore to the maximum. You rest… you can’t rest like this now. But that was all when I was young. They walked happily and cheerfully. My friends and I could go in family shorts to meet girls on the subway. Once they got into trouble, they even broke my nose. A friend fixed it in front of the mirror for me,” Kostomarov said on the air of the show “Secret to a Million” on NTV.
Together with Tatyana Navka, Kostomarov won the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin. The duo also won the World Championships twice and won gold at the European Championships three times. Kostomarov also played in tandem with Ekaterina Davydova.
