Russian speed skating champion Semirunniy said he was joining the Polish national team

Vladimir Semirunniy, Russian speed skating champion and bronze medalist at the World Junior Championships, told that he had informed the Russian Skating Union of his desire to compete for the Polish national team.

Semirunniy is already in Poland. The 20-year-old athlete started cycling training before the season and working out in the gym.

“I just started to have success in adult sports. Now is the time to take the most important step in your development as an athlete, and international practice is necessary. I informed the Russian Skating Union of my desire to change my sports citizenship and compete for the Polish national team.

I would like to thank my region (Sverdlovsk region) for its support, which actively participated in my preparation throughout my journey. I am very grateful to my first coaches Mikhail Igorevich Abroschikov and Pyotr Ivanovich Leftaev, I would like to thank Viktor Alexandrovich Sivkov and Sergei Viktorovich Vasiliev for instilling love for sports and discipline,” Semirunniy told .

The International Skating Union (ISU) has confirmed the suspension of Russian athletes from tournaments under its auspices due to the situation in Ukraine.
