Coach of the Russian national biathlon team Yuri Kaminsky considers criticism aimed at foreign athletes who support Russia unfair.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda previously signed a decree depriving World Championship bronze medalist figure skater Margarita Drobiazko of Lithuanian citizenship.
— I am more worried about the hysteria that exists in Europe at the mention of Russia. But this shows their weakness. They are starting to spread rot on the athletes who support us. In Lithuania, figure skater Margarita Drobyazko was stripped of her citizenship because of her position; in the Czech Republic, everything is said about hockey players playing in Russia, Kaminsky said at the Championship.
In June, the President of the Seimas of Lithuania, Victoria Cmilyte-Nielsen, said in an interview with local media that the procedure to revoke Drobyazko’s citizenship had already been launched. The reason for this is the participation of the figure skater in the Tatiana Navka show.
Drobyazko was born in Moscow, but after the collapse of the USSR she began competing for Lithuania alongside Povilas Vanagas. Together they won bronze at the World Championships.
