The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has confirmed the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the 2023/24 season, Aftonbladet reports.
According to the source, this decision was taken during a conference in Zurich. Thus, Russian and Belarusian skiers will not be able to start the World Cup.
— We are satisfied with this decision. Scandinavia and Sweden welcome the fact that the FIS has not abandoned its principles towards Russia. This seemed important because there was uncertainty around this issue. Nothing has changed since the initial decision to exclude them. Unfortunately, we have to maintain this approach,” said Swedish cross-country team manager Lars Öberg.
By decision of the FIS, Russian and Belarusian athletes were suspended from international competitions last season due to the situation in Ukraine.
