Sergei Kryanin, member of the Presidium of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), said in a conversation with that Russian skiers will certainly be treated with respect and on an equal footing in the international arena, but not when of the coming season.
Earlier, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) confirmed the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the 2023/24 season. According to the publication, this decision was made at a conference in Zurich. Thus, Russian and Belarusian skiers will not be able to start the World Cup.
“What happens happens, everyone understands everything perfectly.” We must adapt to our competitions. It is necessary to expand the range of friendly countries for competitions within our country or to organize joint events.
— Why this situation with the skis? Some sports are already starting to admit our athletes.
— I think there are professionals who want to see our skiers compete with the Norwegians. We were the competition, we are the leader in this field on the world stage. But we shouldn’t perform somewhere without a flag and an anthem, we have to roll with the punches. When everyone agrees to our terms, we will be able to compete and win, on an equal footing and in a fair fight.
— Doesn’t all this seem to eliminate competitors?
– You can say it. But the more athletes and competitions, the greater the interest in the sport. All we see now is a fall. We will expect everything to be fair and to be treated with respect. It will definitely happen, but not this season,” Kryanin told .
By decision of the FIS, Russian and Belarusian athletes are suspended from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine from March 2022.
