Olympic cross-country ski champion Veronica Stepanova believes that Norwegian fans could stage a provocation during the World Cup stages if the Russians were allowed in.
Earlier, Aftonbladet reported that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) confirmed the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the 2023/24 season.
– We will have bad conditions. I already experienced the demo when we were in Oslo. There were demonstrations around our hotels. I’m sure they will be on the ski slope. There will also be problems transporting equipment.
At the Olympics, the level of security is different, and at the World Cup stages, any Norwegian can walk through the forest to the ski slope, light a fire and cause a provocation. The official position of the FIS was that they could not admit us due to the inability to provide security,” Stepanova said on the “Gromko” show on .
By decision of the FIS, Russian and Belarusian athletes have been suspended from international competitions since March 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.
