The coach called Ruslan Tkalenko to a training camp with the first team
Men’s head coach Ukrainian biathlon team Juraj Sanitra shared his plans for the final part of the preparation for the season.
“I can say that the summer part went in very good condition, we did a lot of high-quality training work. I think the boys performed well at the World Championships, but we still have a lot to work on before the season starts. I am pleased with the juniors, who performed well both at the World Championships and at the Ukrainian Championships. Borkovsky showed very great potential and I was interested, he has good functional data, we will look at him further.”
“As for the team composition, unfortunately, for the third season in a row there are problems. Three years ago we were fighting Covid, last year Dmitry Pidruchny had problems with his knee, now he has problems with his hand. At the moment I can say that 100% we will not start with the strongest lineup at the first World Cup in Östersund.”
“The Podruchny’s condition is improving. We have made a special program for him – in October he will train in Syanki, in November he will arrive in Obertilliach. If everything goes according to plan, I hope he will be able to participate in the second stage of the World Cup. This is only our desire, everything will depend on how the recovery from the injury proceeds.”
“Since Podruchny is not yet able to fully perform the work, we included Ruslan Tkalenko in the team, who will prepare for the start of the season with us. And in Kontiolahta, during the roll-in we will see who will be ready for the season and there we will determine the six for the first stage of the World Cup.”
“As for Tkalenko’s physical condition, he is at the level of the guys. He has big problems with standing shooting, he needs to work on that. It’s a pity that on the last day of the training camp in Austria he fell on roller skates. It’s good that nothing bad happened, I just hurt my elbow and knee a little.”
“Regarding Vitaly Mandzin, he was with Pidruchny in Norway in August and did a good job. At the summer World Championships he was not in the best condition, he was already tired. At present, Mandzin is very well prepared, as shown by the functional tests that we did now during the Ukrainian Championship. He did not start at the Ukrainian championship due to a knee injury; it needed to be treated. It has a small problem I think that affects this load. And I believe that he will arrive at the training camp, which begins on October 2 in Oberhof, in optimal condition.”
Let us remind you that Dmitry Pidruchny broke his arm when he fell from a bicycle during training in August. Dmitry missed the 2023 Summer World Championships due to injury. Pidruchny previously said that he plans to return to the second or third stage of the World Cup.
The 2023/24 Biathlon World Cup starts in Ostersund, Sweden on November 25. The 2024 World Cup will be held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, from February 7 to 18.
