“The ISU is dominated by Americans and Canadians who don’t like us. The extension of the suspension is not surprising” – Rodnina

The decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to extend the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions is not surprising: representatives of the United States and Canada occupy dominant positions in the organization, said three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina.

On Monday, the ISU confirmed the decision to exclude Russians from competitions in the context of the situation in Ukraine.

— The ISU is dominated by Americans and Canadians who, frankly, don’t like us. This decision does not surprise me at all, it is natural. They are now playing among themselves for medals that they could not even dream of when the Russians were competing. We decided to give ourselves medals for another year. But after a while they will have no chance not to let us in, and everyone will see how boring it was without us,” Rodnina told Sport24.

On October 9, the President of the Russian Skating Union, Nikolai Gulyaev, said on that the ISU Council did not discuss the issue of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes at the meeting from Lausanne. The council was held from October 6 to 8.
