International sports federations, which have not yet announced the admission of Russian athletes to participate in competitions in neutral status, are moving in this direction, said Keith McConnell, sports director of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
At the end of March, the IOC announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
— As for the performance of athletes in neutral status, the process is going smoothly. We have not recorded cases of withdrawal of other federations from competitions (in which Russians participate with a neutral status). We have received positive feedback from athletes regarding the participation of neutral athletes.
Almost all international federations that have not yet authorized the admission of Russians to neutral status have confirmed that they are moving in this direction. Some plan to do it before the end of the year, others early next year,” McConnell said at a news conference.
