correspondent and presenter Andrei Romanov recalled a story about his aunt, a three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova .
Reztsova died on October 19 at the age of 58.
— Once Anfisa Anatolyevna Reztsova came to us for the regional championship in Vladimir. It was like 1998. Then she came back to skiing after the biathlon. I skipped all the Russian national races because I hadn’t made the national team at that time and hadn’t traveled around the world. She had to stay in shape and, arriving at her mother’s house, she came to take part in our local fights. I went for a walk myself and looked at the kids.
I was 11 years old. In a blue (union) suit that was three sizes too big, I fought for some places, even ten in my opinion. Anfisa Anatolyevna led me from the last climb to the finish plain (one and a half kilometers). I tried so hard that I accidentally crushed my paw and pulled the stick out of my hand. There was no time to return. And with such support – not a step back, She’s late. This is how I sawed with a single stick to the finish line. I sawed and thought: damn, here she is one of the strongest in the world, next to me, pushing me forward. And who am I? Person! A boy running a race in a village. What I can? Try to become like her.
And then it was a turning point in my life. I didn’t turn out to be a good skier. But I understood one important law: to achieve something and become someone, you have to work hard. Plow so hard your ass smokes. And I plowed. First in college, then as an aspiring journalist, etc. That was my motivation. And a goal.
I am grateful to the Great Anfisa Anatolyevna for her motivation and inspiration. Rest in peace, Fisk. That’s what my great-grandmother called her, ”Romanov wrote in Telegram channel .
Reztsova won gold and silver in cross-country skiing at the 1988 Olympics and also won three world championships. In biathlon, the athlete won gold at the 1992 (sprint) and 1994 (relay) Games, and also became a silver medalist at the world championships.
